Chitwan, March 23: The District Public Health Office, Chitwan, and Chitwan chapter of Nepal Anti-Tuberculosis Association, have organised an interaction here today on the eve of the World Tuberculosis Day.

The World Tuberculosis Day is observed on March 24 every year. The theme of the World TB Day this year is – Unite to End Tuberculosis.

On the occasion, it was informed that a total of 1,004 new tuberculosis patients have been detected in the district in eight months of the current fiscal year.

A total of 1,201 new TB patients were identified in last fiscal year in the district. Thirteen people have died due to TB till now in the current fiscal year, it was shared in the programme.

Officer at the District Public Health Office, Jayram Dawadi, said that this number of new TB patients have been detected in the district in course of sputum test carried out on samples taken from 6,762 people. The highest number of TB patients belongs to the 15-45 year age group, which is 709.

He said that the Public Health Office and its subordinate bodies are administering medicines regularly to the patients.

Similarly, Chief at the District Public Health Office, Chitwan, Madhusudan Koirala, said that problem has surfaced in controlling the disease as patients still hide the disease.

Lawmaker of the Chitwan Constituency No 4, Ram Krishna Ghimire, said that political parties should help control the disease.

Meanwhile, some 100 contract-basis employees at the Chitwan Medical College have demonstrated in the district today to exert pressure for the fulfillment of their demands. The employees have been trying to close the OPD service for the past four days. Some employees and police personnel were injured on Tuesday in this connection.

Organising a press conference at the College premises this morning, they warned of launching stern agitation if their demands are not fulfilled. They launched the agitation demanding implementation of agreement signed between the Hospital and the employees in 2066.
