Kathmandu: The proponent of the Ayurveda, Dhanavantari, is being commemorated on Monday for his contribution to the promotion of Vedic medical science.
It is common practice in Hinduism for worshippers to pray to Dhanavantari seeking his blessings for good health for themselves and others.
The Vedic literature states that the god of Dhanavantari was emerged from the ocean of milk on the day of Krishna Trayodashi and appeared with the pot of nectar while the oceasn was being churned by the gods and monsters
His birthday is celebrated by the practitioners every year on Dhanteras ahead of Tihar, the second big festival of Hindus.
The day is being celebrated to create public awareness and promote the use of natural medicinal herbs commonly found in our surrounding for our sound health, said Managing Director of Singhadurbar Vaidhyakhana Development Committee, Rajendra Kumar Giri. RSS
