Kathamandu: Nepal’s national cricket team on Tuesday left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to participate in the ICC World Cricket League.
Officials of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) wished success to the team at a farewell ceremony organized in the capital. Before taking on Papua New Guinea on November 16 and 18 under the ICC Cricket League, Nepal is scheduled to play two-day friendlies against Hong Kong and ODIs against Pakistan, Oman and local teams.
In the first round of the League, Nepal was defeated in two matches by Ireland. Nepal is under pressure to win against Papua New Guinea.
Nepal’s coach Pubudu Dassanayake said the team had worked hard to prepare for the competition and expressed frustration at CAN’s delay in selecting the players, which happened only on Monday night.
The 16-member team is headed by skipper Paras Khadka and includes Vice Captain Gyanendra Malla, Subash Khakurel, Basanta Regmi, Shakti Prasad Gauchan and Sagar Pun. Other players are Anil Kumar Mandal, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Mahesh Kumar Chhetri, Mahaboob Alam, Sharad Veswakar, Puthu Banskota, Isad Ahmed, Naresh Bahadur Budhayer and Bikram Sob. RSS
