Kathmandu The Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu will be adopting the Broken Window Theory (BWT) Policing to root out organised crime and criminal activities in the Capital city. At a press conference held at Police Range Office at Teku on Sunday, the police officials expressed commitment to fully implement the recently introduced campaign ‘Police Service with Smile’ to eradicate police apathy towards the need to win over people’s hearts and mind, and use of vulgar words, physical torture, corruption and widespread discrimination plaguing the police department.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bikram Singh Thapa –a newly appointed Police Chief in Kathmandu – assured of not reaching a compromising position with any criminal groups during his term in office. He warned of even ordering those intimidating people and causing unrest through use of weapons to be shot. “I do not care even if I have to lose my job and life in course of providing security to the people,” he said. SSP Thapa further shared that the police would frame a security strategy in adherence to scientific means to face the activities being carried out by the disgruntled side after the promulgation of the new constitution. The police briefed the conference on a special security plan being introduced for this year’s festivals of Bada Dashain, Tihar and Chhath which encompasses a wide spectrum of activities. The police will lend special scrutiny for security at temples and religious shrines, goat market, pyrotechnique devices used for fireworks, containing black market trading and food adulteration, security for public vehicles, illegal gambling and banning Nepali gamblers from casinos.
