Dhunche (Rasuwa), Oct 15: The Rasuwagadhi checkpoint in bordering Kerung in China that was closed following the April 25 earthquake has come into operation from today.
The checkpoint came into operation as the quake-damaged road linking Kerung was recently repaired by the Chinese authority.
Chinese official Ma Qingsheng, who looks after Border Administration, announced the check point open at 9:30 am today amid a programme, according to Jivraj Koirala, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS).
The resumption of the blocked northern checkpoint in the nick of festival time and ongoing border blockade by India on Nepal has brought cheers to the locals, shared Babulal Tamang, Chairperson of Civic Society, Rasuwa.
A total of six food-items laden trucks sent by the Chinese government to Nepal were seen at sight before the announcement of border resumption from the Chinese authority, informed Mani Bhattarai, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
It is said that the food items worth 50 tonnes, amounting to some Rs 10.6 million, were ferried to Nepal as an aid from China government for Dashain.
The Armed Police Force (APF) Border Security Company is also learnt to set up its Post in Rasuwagadhi.
Present at the programme were representatives of MoCS, MoFA, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Administrator in Rasuwa, Security forces and Chinese Embassy officials in Nepal. RSS
