Mustang, August 10: Lo Manthang, a tourist spot in Mustang, which wore deserted look for almost three months following the April 25 quake, has started receiving increasing number of tourists lately.
According to Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Chief Santosh Sherchan, Lo Manthang has started attracting tourists since the mid of July.
Tourists mostly from France, Japan and Belgium are making it to the place that boasts of unique geographical structure and rich Tibetan art and culture as well as the picturesque landscape, he added.
Situated at an altitude of 3,770 meters above sea level, Lo Manthang recorded 4,100 tourists in year 2014. A total of 895 tourists have been recorded to have come here as of August 9 this year as against1,940 this period last year.
“Due to the devastating earthquake, the place wore deserted look for three months but tourists started to come since the second week of July”, shared ACAP Chief Sherchan, urging both the domestic and foreign tourists to visit Mustang as it was safe.
Under the Round Annapurna Trekking Route, Lo Manthang could be reached through Jomsom and Kagbeni. The alternative route is through Thorong La Pass in Manang via Muktinath.
Some 90 hotels are in operation in Lo Manthang. RSS
