Kathmandu: A meeting between the major coalition partners CPN (UML) and UCPN (Maoist) held on Tuesday concluded with an informal agreement of allocating eight ministries and the post of Speaker to the UCPN (M).
The meeting attended by top leaders of the parties discussed the allocation of the post of President, Speaker and important ministries. The major ruling party UML is likely to get the post of President.

If the things go as the two parties’ understanding, the UML will get the post of President and six ministries. Party Vice-Chair Bidya Devi Bhandari and Speaker Subash Nembang are the probable candidates for the Presidential post. However, decisions of the meeting need to be endorsed by the UML Standing Committee.
UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said a tentative agreement was reached to provide eight ministries including the Home Ministry to his party and added that the party had given up its claim to the Presidential post.
According to him, UCPN (Maoist) will get the Ministry of General Administration. Likewise, the party will also lead one of either local development, energy and tourism ministries, as well as one of education and health ministries.
The UML Standing Committee will hold consultation on Wednesday before finalizing the name list of its ministers, UML Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung said.
The parties are set to start discussion on sharing the post of Vice-President and Deputy House Speaker after agreement is reached on the posts of President and Speaker. RSS
